Xiaomi did not have a successful 2022. Its overall exports plummeted last year, the Indian government is looking into it, and many of its top executives have left. In some ways, the Redmi Note 12 series' introduction coincides with the worst conceivable timing for the company. But the show must go on, or so Xiaomi believes as it prepares to launch its most significant product in 2023.

However, there is a significant difference this year, as the entire Redmi Note 12 lineup is now 5 G-ready. It is also significantly more expensive. The price of this specific model is about Rs 30,000. Redmi has once again exceeded expectations in terms of specifications.. The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ features a 200MP camera, 120W fast charging, and a display refresh rate of 120Hz.In fact, it contains 256GB of storage, which is twice as much. What does this mean for the user, though? We address these concerns in our review.

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G review: Does it support 5G?

Yes, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ supports 5G. I used it with my Airtel SIM and didn't even realize it was on the 5G network. I saw download rates as high as 230 Mbps. However, upload speeds remain low, as evidenced by the screenshots below. But what does this mean for the average user? Super-fast downloads are now a reality. For instance, I downloaded Call of Duty Mobile, which is about 1.4GB in size, on this phone in my office in less than two minutes, which I could not have done on earlier 4G networks.

But, even with those slower upload speeds, I was able to quickly upload photos from my phone to my Google Drive in my office using only the mobile network. I frequently give up on this endeavor while I'm on 4G. With 5G, there were no such worries.

 

However, there are concerns that 5G will result in a significant decrease in battery life.With this phone, I have not yet experienced that. If you're planning to purchase a new phone this year, it almost surely will support 5G, especially if your spending limit is higher than Rs 20,000.

What about that 200MP camera on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G?

The Redmi Note series' cameras have always been excellent, especially for the price. In fact, of all the Redmi phones I've tested, the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max has the best camera. So I was eager to see if this phone could top that experience. On some fronts, I was pleasantly surprised. For starters, Redmi is not only adding a 200MP High-Resolution camera to the Note series, but also optical image stabilization (OIS). This is supposed to help with low-light photography, and I believe the difference is visible in the results.

I should also point out how prominent the camera hump at the back is. Additionally, this implies that the gadget is never flat on a table. In fact, the Redmi once fell off my dressing table, but there was no harm done.

Regular photos on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ are now impressive, especially given that this is still a relatively less expensive phone. If you shoot in bright light or in a well-lit room, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ will produce crisp photos with excellent color reproduction. But it's the low-light performance that really stood out for me, as it's the best I've seen on a Redmi Note to date.

The pictures of the idols below and the red candle in my bathroom were taken without using Night Mode. I liked how the Redmi phone kept the contrasts and shadows and details intact. The ones with Night Mode activated are actually brighter and rather impressive. However, I liked the ones without Night mode better. Additionally, I took pictures of the cactus plants in the room with and without lighting. The Redmi does a fantastic job of keeping details and highlighting items.


Let's talk about the display and performance of the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G.

The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ features a 6.67-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The display quality of the phone is still very good, and touch sampling rates of up to 240 Hz are supported. Dolby Vision is also supported by this model. On this, I had fun and watched a lot of How I Met Your Mother. I also played Genshin Impact, Asphalt 9, and Apex Legends, and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ has an excellent display that is well-suited for gaming and entertainment. The audio on the device is also loud enough, and the phone includes dual stereo speakers with Hi-Res audio certification.

The Mediatek Density 1080 processor, which has a 6 nm manufacturing technology, powers the phone. This is unquestionably sufficient for both daily chores and gaming. There was no latency or stuttering for me. Genshin Impact and Asphalt 9 could both be played on it without overheating. In reality, the only heating I experienced was when I downloaded Genshin, which is typical of most phones in my experience.

The main issue is not the Redmi's processor. It is due to the software. In 2023, the phone is still running Android 12, which is unacceptable. Redmi has not given any explanations as to why the phone does not support Android 13, and even though it will get two software updates, Android 14 will only be included. All of this is disheartening.

The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ also has a side fingerprint scanner, which I had some trouble with. It wouldn't recognize my finger, and I tried them all to unlock the phone. I eventually just erased the fingerprint and had to set it up again, and it worked fine after that. The phone also has an IP53 rating, which is nice to see, but don't go submerging it in water. Only small splashes can be contained by this.

Review of the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G battery and charger:

Xiaomi is introducing 120W charging to the Redmi Note series and includes a charger in the box. The 4980 mAh battery on the phone will easily last a day with heavy usage and more than a day with moderate usage. You only need to plug it in for 20 minutes because it charges at 120W. The phone also has a setting that I noticed was turned on by default to ensure that 5G does not consume too much power.

Should you upgrade to the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G?

The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ has impressive specifications and a very appealing price. It is without a doubt a fantastic phone given the performance and camera. The cost has been lowered to Rs 29,999 and increased to Rs 32,999. Of course, if you combine all of Redmi's offers, such as the Rs 3,000 ICICI Bank discount and exchange bonuses, you can bring the price down to Rs 25,999 for the 8GB RAM option. Redmi has also increased its internal storage to 256GB. But today, the Redmi Note series is competing with an entirely new group of gadgets.

It also implies that this is not the phone for every Redmi user, particularly those who are hesitant to spend more than Rs 20,000. This one is only for die-hard Redmi supporters who demand the newest features and the greatest camera. If you want a less expensive Note, you'll have to look at other models in the series.
